Despite his retirement, Dr. Javed Shahid continues to maintain emeritus status with Elite Brain and Spine. He welcomes all of his patients to continue their ongoing care with the practice.

More About Dr. Shahid:
S. Javed Shahid grew up in Karachi, Pakistan. By the age of 11, he knew that he wanted to become a doctor and his determination never faltered from that point forward. Working toward this goal, Dr. Shahid graduated from Government College in Hyderabad, Pakistan in 1966 with Honors. He then attended medical school at Dow Medical College University of Karachi, Pakistan. In his third year, after working in the neurosurgery unit and assisting in surgeries as a result of the 1972 war, he was certain that he wanted to specialize in Neurosurgery. He graduated in 1972 with Honors and also received the Gold Medalist award for finishing at the top of the graduating class.
With only $100 in his pocket, Dr. Shahid left Pakistan to begin his medical career in the United States. He completed his internship at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He completed junior residencies in both General Surgery and Neurosurgery at Downstate Medical Center, Kings County Hospital, NY. He was a Resident in Neurology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, NY. He was the Chief Resident, Neurosurgery at Downstate Medical Center, Kings County Hospital Brooklyn, New York. He became a Diplomate of American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1983.
Dr. Shahid then moved to Ridgefield, CT where he began his practice at Neurosurgical Associates of Southwestern CT. Dr. Shahid brought his specialized training and more advanced surgical procedures to both hospitals. He performed the first transphenoidal surgery at Norwalk Hospital and the first basilar aneurysm surgery at Danbury Hospital. He received specialized training in microneurosurgery, laser surgery, Stereotactic Intracranial Surgery, Intradiscal Spinal Therapy, as well as Automated Percutaneous Discectomies.
Dr. Shahid became Chief of Neurosurgery at Danbury Hospital in the early 1990’s. He held this honor until his retirement in 2020. He maintains emeritus status with the organization for his continued devotion and value to the practice.
Dr. Shahid has three grown children and enjoys spending time playing tennis and reading voraciously.
